An article shared from Crescy D. Nguyen's point of view: Dogs and cats are friends

From time immemorial to the present day, civilizations that treat all species have begun by accepting and respecting the way others treat their pets.

A famous Indian lawyer once said: "The greatness and moral progress of a people can be judged by the way animals are treated". - The greatness and moral development of a nation can be judged by the way it treats animals.

It is the perfect sign of a civilized society when people try to minimize the pain and suffering of the utterly powerless and weak.

There are many ways of living, many ways of speaking, and many ways of doing things. People with a conscience who want to save will find ways to minimize the pain caused by misfortune. This article is not meant to be grandiose, but just to illustrate that a person with a compassionate heart can travel thousands of miles to save sentient beings.

In October 2020, California (USA) was engulfed in wildfires. Even the Los Angeles metropolitan area is threatened by fires along the San Gabriel Mountains. Residents of the foothill cities of Monrovia, Duarte, Lancaster, and Palmdale were ordered to evacuate.

Humanitarian organizations have also opened their doors to receive pets from families fleeing natural disasters. Stables and roofs were installed at the Santa Anita Racetrack to temporarily keep horses and livestock from approaching people and avoid accidents.

On weekdays, families are encouraged to put up decals s so that firefighters know there are pets inside if a house catches fire and can figure out how to save people. Implant microchips on cats and dogs, and register the owner's information; if they get lost, they will be returned to the family immediately after scanning. An organization posted a message that a lost dog was rescued after being hit by a car, asking the society to donate 6,000 yuan for surgery. People send double the amount back, so the excess goes to saving other "friends" of dogs and cats.

Humane centers and dog and cat rescue camps often host volunteer events for children, teaching them how to interact with and care for animals. Because I believe that children learn to love by taking care of small animals, to form the ability to empathize, understand, and take responsibility. Animal cruelty is a serious crime punishable by fines and imprisonment or re-education.

Because behavioral psychology has proven that those who are cruel enough to torture weak animals can become cruel enough to torture humans. And there is a Trio of Serial Killer (serial killers), that is, violent tendencies, emotions out of control, and 3 omens of homicide since childhood, including playing with fire and bedwetting after adulthood. (related to loss of emotional control) and killing animals.

The new serial killer is cold and excited enough to torment animals smaller than himself. And the truth is, most murderers have that mark, and it all started when some animal was murdered. All of the above are signs. If a society respects animals more and gives animals more humanity, it is also a society that values people. Treat the weak (animals) kindly, but it is difficult to be kind to the wicked.

Humans keep animals for many purposes. Donkeys and horses for transportation. Buffaloes and cows plow. Feed on pigs, chickens, and seafood. Civilized society also pays attention to breeding, quarantine, clean cages, humane slaughter, sustainable exploitation of marine resources, fish that are too small to be exploited are still released, cattle are destroyed, and diseases must be treated and prevented.

Like dogs and cats, as friends, they are "companions". The history of the domestication of dogs and cats dating back 10,000 years proves that dogs and cats have evolved to be able to read emotions, smell chemicals when they are happy and sad, and understand their owners' facial expressions.

Contemporary young people have an increasingly progressive view of pets as friends, fun away from home, and part of the family rather than food or inanimate objects. So seeing comments like "just one dog" and "a dog is worth hundreds" breaks my heart. But it is the happiness of others, lonely people are accompanied by dogs and cats, young people far away from home have friends in the city, and a period of childhood growing up with domestic pets.

I hope that in the next 5 or 10 years, we will stop treating cats and dogs as a dish to satisfy our tastes, and stop treating wild animals as a unique dish that proves our class. But considering talent, the value of life lies in conscience.
